Patrick Mahomes, Brittany Mahomes and their son Bronze attended a back-to-school event hosted by the quarterback’s foundation, 15 and the Mahomies, in partnership with Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE).The Kansas City event focused on helping families prepare for the school year. Parents received educational resources, health guidance and practical advice on managing food allergies. Children took part in activities while families attended expert discussions and demonstrations of allergen-free school lunches.Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes did more than pose for photos. They spoke with families, joined the activities and spent time with parents facing many of the same challenges they once did. FARE later thanked the couple in a social media post, writing that their advocacy carries extra meaning because they are “food allergy parents” themselves.That description comes from personal experience. In an interview with Parents, Brittany Mahomes recalled the frightening day when Bronze had his first reaction after trying peanut powder at around eight months old. “I took his diaper off and I then realized he had broken out into hives everywhere under his diaper and his clothes. Within minutes, it began to grow and grow, and eventually covered his whole body and got up to his face.“The reaction escalated quickly. Brittany already had an AUVI-q epinephrine auto-injector because their daughter Sterling had previously been diagnosed with food allergies. She explained to “Parents” that having the injector with her helped during those tense moments. “Knowing that I did have that with me, I felt a little more competent in the situation, but we did end up going to the emergency room.”Doctors monitored Bronze for several hours before sending him home. Brittany remembered the relief she felt after hearing the update from medical staff. “They ultimately told us, ‘He’s going to be fine, but you need to wait here for a few hours just to make sure everything’s OK.'”The Mahomes family had already faced food allergies before Bronze’s emergency. Brittany told “Parents” that their daughter Sterling reacted soon after switching to formula. She recalled that Sterling “was vomiting; she was sneezing; she had red, itchy eyes.” Doctors later confirmed allergies to milk, eggs and dairy.Those experiences explain why Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes continue to support FARE through their foundation. As Patrick reports to the Kansas City Chiefs training camp, the event offered a reminder that some of the biggest victories for the Mahomes family happen far from the football field.
