Spain’s Submer to invest $2 billion in Madhya Pradesh semiconductor sector, may create 5,000 jobs

Spainish tech giant Submer Group on Monday announced a $2 billion investment in Madhya Pradesh’s semiconductor industry, a move expected to create nearly 5,000 direct employment opportunities.The announcement was made at the MP Tech Growth Conclave 3.0: GCC – Data Centres and Semiconductors, according to a senior state government official.“A $2 billion investment (19,000 crore rupees) in the semiconductor industry was announced today by Spain’s Submer Group at the MP Tech Growth Conclave 3.0: GCC – Data Centres and Semiconductors,” the official said in a statement.“The states investing in AI infrastructure today will be the leaders of tomorrow,” Patrick Smets, Chief Executive Officer of Submer India Private Limited, said, applauding Madhya Pradesh’s vision. He further added that the state sits at the forefront of the AI revolution.The official said the state government received an email requesting land allotment for a data centre project and allotted 15 acres in the Acharpura industrial area within six days.During the event, a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between Google Play India and the Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation (MPSEDC). The state government also handed over Letters of Allotment to Smets.The investment builds on Submer’s plans announced last year to expand into the Indian market and position the country as a central hub for manufacturing and serving the Asian region. At the time, the company said that India offers an opportunity to develop future-ready, high-density data centres from the ground up as its market was not constrained by legacy cooling systems.Submer had said it would introduce advanced liquid cooling solutions designed to reduce energy and water consumption, lower the environmental footprint and cut operational costs. It also announced plans to establish a manufacturing facility in India, transforming the country into a production and export hub for its cooling systems across Asia.The company had also outlined plans to enter into strategic partnerships with leading OEMs and ODMs to integrate its liquid cooling solutions into high-performance computing infrastructure, with the aim of enabling wider adoption and scalability.Speaking during the announcement of the India expansion last year, Patrick Smets, CEO of Submer, said, “India’s digital transformation is unparalleled, and its lack of legacy infrastructure provides a perfect canvas for building the datacenters of the future today. We’re not just bringing our technology to India; we’re establishing a new paradigm for sustainable digital growth. We aim to make India the model for how a nation can achieve massive datacenter scale while championing environmental stewardship.”Beyond technology deployment, Submer had said it intended to support skill development programmes to build a workforce for next-generation data centres. The company said it would collaborate with leading skill development agencies and explore MoUs with state governments to expand these initiatives.These efforts were projected to create more than 5,000 Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) job opportunities in the coming years.Dev Tyagi, President of Submer UK, Ireland & India, had said, “We believe in a holistic approach to market entry.
