Andretti driver Jake Dennis enjoyed a strong run in China this season, with three podiums in four races. After securing a podium in Shanghai, he went on to claim podium finishes on both days of the Tokyo E-Prix this weekend. While he finished second in Round 14, he claimed another podium by finishing third in Round 15. With this run of results, Dennis moved to the top of the Drivers’ Standings. Just two more races remain before either Dennis, Mitch Evans or Pascal Wehrlein claims the world championship this season.

Jake Dennis on becoming the new Formula E championship leader

Formula E dedicated a post to Dennis, which read: “There’s a new Championship leader. Jake Dennis heads to the London E-Prix on top of the Drivers’ World Championship standings.”On taking the lead from Mitch Evans in the Drivers’ Standings, Dennis said, “Championship leader sounds incredible! I had this pressure back in Season 9, so I’m used to it. There’s no difference there. Obviously, the gap is much closer, but you know, I’m just fully motivated, focused to get the job done, and it’s going to be an incredible fight with the five of us who can probably go for it. There’s no one I’d rather have backing my corner than Andretti, and let’s go and get it done in a couple of weeks.”

When asked about how he managed to claim a podium on Sunday, Jake Dennis said, “I think at one point I was 35 seconds back from the leader and to almost win it with no safety car or anything is pretty impressive. You know we got the call perfectly on the strategy with the tyre pressures and ultimately I just had a mega car. You know we were so quick on 300 and obviously on the 350 it was there for the taking.”Jake Dennis shared a few pictures from the podium celebrations with champagne on Instagram. He wrote: “P3. Championship leader. One round. One goal. London… let’s do this.”Reacting to his post, a fan wrote: “So deserved mate! Be cheering you on to bring it home in London!” Another called him the “Silver Surfer” for his silver merchandise for the Tokyo E-Prix.Nyck de Vries of Mahindra Racing won the Round 15 race on Sunday, with Nick Cassidy of Citroen Racing finishing second.Dennis now leads the Drivers’ Standings with 146 points. Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans is just two points behind on 144, while Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein has 141 points. Nissan’s Oliver Rowland is also in the title race with 132 points. Mahindra Racing driver Edoardo Mortara is fifth in the standings with 116 points. Also read: Tokyo E-Prix round-up: All the biggest moments from Formula E’s thrilling night race
