Suspected sulphur dioxide leak kills 3 factory workers in Karnataka’s Yadgir | Hubballi News
YADGIR: Three workers died and two others were injured after a suspected sulphur dioxide leak at a factory in the Kadechur-Badiyal Industrial Area in Karnataka’s Yadgir district on Wednesday, police said.According to news agency PTI, the incident occurred early in the morning when a chemical reportedly leaked inside the factory, causing workers on duty to suffocate, according to preliminary findings. PTI reported that the three deceased were migrant labourers, while the injured workers were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.News agency ANI, citing police, reported that the leaked chemical is suspected to be sulphur dioxide.The deceased have been identified as Katla Ganesh, a resident of Mahabubnagar district in Telangana, and Vikram Singh Gonda and Sanjay Singh Gonda, both residents of Katni district in Madhya Pradesh, ANI reported.The injured workers, Manchala Hemanth and Manchala Shivakumar, residents of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh, are undergoing treatment at a hospital, according to ANI.Speaking to ANI, Yadgir Superintendent of Police Prithvik Shankar said, “In the early morning hours, a chemical, likely to be Sulphur dioxide, leaked, leading to the death of three workers. Two workers are admitted to Raichur Medical Hospital. We have registered a case against the management of the company. Teams of SDRF and Forensics are present at the site.”(With agency inputs)
