‘Super Intelligence’ AI safety accord signed by tech CEOs carries ‘Unites States’ typo under Trump’s name
Top technology executives have signed an agreement with US President Donald Trump promising stronger safeguards for increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems. But despite the document being signed by some of the biggest names in the tech industry, a basic spelling mistake in Trump’s title went unnoticed, which drew widespread mockery online.The document, titled the “White House Accord on Super Intelligence”, identifies Trump as the “President of the Unites States”, instead of the “United States”.The typo appears beneath Trump’s prominent signature on the second page of the accord, which was circulated publicly by the White House and later shared by Trump on his Truth Social account.Trump signed the agreement on Tuesday after hosting several technology leaders at the White House. The signatories included Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI president Greg Brockman, xAI CEO Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

Pichai also shared the document on X, saying Google had invested hundreds of billions of dollars in the US and was committed to working with other industry leaders to establish norms and build public confidence around AI.However, the typo in the document appeared to have gone unnoticed by Pichai and the other signatories before it was published.The error quickly became a talking point online, with users sharing screenshots of the document and highlighting the words “Unites States”.One user wrote: “What about the typo!! Super intelligence doesn’t pick up the super intelligent typo?”Another mocked the agreement by saying: “Super Intelligence is AI without spell check.”A third user pointed to the purpose of the agreement, asking whether a typo missed by the people overseeing “super intelligence” raised questions about what else could potentially be overlooked.The spelling error drew particular attention because the agreement itself focuses on safeguards and oversight for advanced AI systems.
What does Trump’s AI accord say?
The voluntary agreement calls on participating AI companies to introduce several layers of safeguards around their systems.These include internal monitoring of model capabilities, an internal oversight team, independent external audits and a board-level committee responsible for receiving reports and ensuring that identified problems are addressed.Trump has described the accord as “morally binding”, although it is not legally enforceable. The document also says that some of the measures could eventually be turned into laws or regulations.The agreement comes as AI development and the potential risks posed by increasingly capable systems have become a major focus of debate in the US.Trump has also promoted the term “super intelligence” as his preferred description for AI. On Tuesday, he signed an executive order directing the federal government to replace references to “artificial intelligence” and “AI” with “super intelligence” or “SI”.The White House had not immediately commented on the spelling error or said whether a corrected version of the accord would be issued.
