CJP yet to seek nod for July 20 Parliament march, say Delhi Police sources
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has not yet approached the Delhi Police to seek official clearance for its high-stakes Parliament march

NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been protesting at Jantar Mantar, has called for a march to Parliament on Monday, the opening day of the Monsoon Session. However, sources said the organisation has not yet approached Delhi Police for permission to hold the march. The protest march was announced earlier by activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday morning following concerns over his health.Officials indicated that any request for permission at this stage would face significant hurdles because of heightened security arrangements around Parliament.Delhi Police enforces prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), formerly Section 144 of the CrPC, in the New Delhi district during Parliament sessions. The restrictions prohibit gatherings of four or more people, unauthorised rallies and the carrying of weapons, particularly around Parliament House and India Gate. The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on July 20 and continue until August 13 after President Droupadi Murmu approved the government’s recommendation to convene both Houses for the four-week session.Authorities said strict security measures are in force to ensure smooth movement of lawmakers, and student groups or political workers attempting to march to Parliament without permission are likely to face detention or dispersal. The controversy over the proposed protest comes amid growing concerns over Wangchuk’s health after his removal from the protest site at Jantar Mantar earlier in the day.Clarifying the sequence of events, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), New Delhi, said a medical team had arrived at Jantar Mantar to conduct a court-mandated daily health assessment.According to police, the examination was disrupted after several protesters allegedly obstructed the medical team, leading to a brief commotion.“Considering the delicate health condition of Shri Wangchuk, on medical advice, he was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination and further intervention, as required,” the New Delhi DCP posted on X.Doctors at Safdarjung Hospital said the prolonged fast had weakened Wangchuk and led to dehydration. He remains under close observation and is undergoing further tests.Safdarjung Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Charu Bamba said Wangchuk was stable despite mild dehydration and weakness.“Sonam Wangchuk arrived at our hospital around 7:40 AM. He is somewhat weak due to prolonged fasting and is experiencing mild dehydration; otherwise, all his vital parameters are stable. He is being continuously examined and monitored, and his treatment is underway,” Dr Bamba said.Meanwhile, Delhi Police convened a high-level meeting at the police headquarters on Saturday afternoon following the removal of Wangchuk and his supporters from the protest venue.Wangchuk has been on an indefinite fast for the past 20 days, demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the NEET paper leak controversy.Members of Left-backed student organisations also joined the agitation at Jantar Mantar.CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the protest would continue despite Wangchuk’s hospitalisation and announced that he would carry forward the indefinite hunger strike.(With ANI inputs)
