NEW DELHI: The first-ever Corps Commander–level meeting between India and China in the eastern sector was a two-day engagement, marking a milestone in bilateral efforts to maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).“The first highest military Corps Commander–level flag meeting took place on Sept 6 at Wacha on the Indian side in Arunachal Pradesh and then the second meet happened at Damai on the Chinese side on Sept 7,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. He added that “a similar mechanism also exists in the western sector”.Jaiswal said the high-level military dialogue in the eastern sector followed foundational agreements reached between the special representatives of both countries in Aug 2025 and May-Aug 2026 and subsequent working mechanism for consultation and coordination (WMCC) meetings held in Beijing and New Delhi.On normalisation of relations between the two nations, he said, “India-China ties are gradually moving in a positive direction. This gradual normalisation of ties, people-to-people ties are very important. And when we talk of people-to-people ties or normalisation of people ties, we also talk about visa issues that help in promoting them.”

The Indian delegation was led by Lt Gen Girish Kalia, Commander of the Rangapahar-based 3 Corps. The Indian Army guards the LAC in Arunachal Pradesh through two primary formations: the 3 Corps and the Tezpur-based 4 Corps.The eastern sector Corps Commander–level talks followed a high-level visit to China by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, during which both nations agreed on joint measures to ensure peace and stability along the LAC. During that high-level dialogue, both countries agreed to an eight-point consensus aimed at ensuring long-term peace and stability along the LAC.
