Balochistan on edge: BLF claims string of attacks on Pakistani military convoys, camps

The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has claimed responsibility for a string of attacks targeting Pakistani security forces across Balochistan, including alleged ambushes on military convoys, attacks on camps and the seizure of weapons, according to a report.BLF spokesperson Gwahram Baloch said group’s fighters carried out several operations between September 1 and 11 across areas including Kharan, Kech, Tump and Dasht.According to the statement cited by the Balochistan Post, BLF fighters stopped and searched vehicles at a checkpoint in Koh Dagar, Mand, on September 11. The group said the move was aimed at maintaining its presence and tracking the movements of Pakistani forces and people it described as their local facilitators.Meanwhile, Pakistan’s authorities have claimed that nine militants were killed in separate security operations in Balochistan. Palistan police said six were killed in an exchange of fire with Counter Terrorism Department personnel in Pishin’s Saranan area, while four security personnel were injured. In another operation, three militants, including wanted militant Naqeebullah, were allegedly killed after their vehicle was targeted in a quadcopter strike in Mastung on Sunday.A day earlier, the BLF claimed it attacked a military convoy in Tatgar, Yakmach, in Kharan. The group alleged that two buses carrying Pakistani military personnel were hit by heavy and automatic weapons, killing six personnel and injuring several others. The claims have not been independently verified. The BLF further claimed that Pakistani forces launched a pursuit operation in the Hermag desert following the attack but withdrew after encountering resistance. The group also reported another checkpoint operation on the Nasirabad-Nodiz highway in Kech on September 10. It alleged that Pakistani military convoys and quadcopters later reached the area and carried out aerial firing after BLF fighters had left.In Tump, the organisation claimed attacks were carried out against military camps in Dil Kik, Zamuran and Rodbun. According to TBP, the BLF said heavy weapons, grenade launchers and automatic firearms were used and that the attacks caused casualties and material damage. The group also claimed that its fighters intercepted the official vehicle of Tump’s assistant commissioner in Khairabad, Turbat, on September 9. It said the official escaped in another vehicle, while weapons and equipment belonging to his security detail were taken. The BLF referred to an earlier attack in Pattok, Dasht, on September 1, claiming that a military patrol was targeted, one vehicle was damaged and several personnel were killed or wounded. The latest statement follows earlier BLF claims covering attacks between August and September 9. The group had claimed that more than 12 Pakistani military personnel and one police officer were killed in 11 operations across Chagai, Surab, Awaran, Khuzdar, Rakhshan, Kech, Quetta and Barkhan. On September 9, the BLF also claimed that its fighters took control of the Talaran police station in Chagai’s Baramcha area, detained police personnel and seized weapons, equipment and a vehicle. It said the personnel were later released unharmed after being warned. The group had separately claimed that 97 Pakistani military personnel were killed and 15 seriously injured in 48 operations across 23 locations in Balochistan in July.
