‘Wanted papers for his share’: Drunk son pumps 3 bullets into father in Ghaziabad over Rs 150-crore property dispute | Ghaziabad News
GHAZIABAD: A 32-year-old man allegedly shot dead his 55-year-old father at their house in Modinagar on Wednesday night. Police said he fired more than three rounds after a heated argument that began when the father confronted him for returning home drunk.According to police, the deceased was identified as Hariom, a resident of Budana village in Modinagar. He was a farmer. He is survived by his wife, Meenakshi, 50, and two sons, Nikhil and Nishu, 27.The deceased’s wife said in her complaint that a land dispute had already been ongoing between her husband and their elder son, Nikhil. On Wednesday night, Nikhil came home around 11 pm while Hariom was resting on his bed after dinner.“My husband found that Nikhil was in a drunken condition and asked him why he had come home after drinking. The argument later turned to the property dispute, and my son, in a fit of rage, started firing at my husband with the intention of killing him.”“On hearing the gunshots, I rushed there and saw my son Nikhil holding a pistol. He fired three bullets at my husband in front of me, hitting him in the head and stomach, following which he fell to the ground. Nikhil then fled the spot,” she said.She called her relatives and neighbours and took Hariom to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.Jaiprakash, a relative of the deceased, told TOI that Hariom owned 75 bighas of land, part of which is located near the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. He also owned three shops in the Modinagar market. Together, these assets were worth more than Rs 150 crore.“Some years ago, Hariom divided these properties into three shares — one for Nikhil, one for Nishu, and the third for himself and his wife.Although Hariom had allocated the property, no legal documentation was completed. Nikhil wanted the papers for his share to be finalised quickly, but Hariom said he would not do so before Nikhil’s marriage. Nikhil had started drinking, and his circle of friends was also bad, which is why the property transfer documents were never executed,” he said.Surendra Nath Tiwari, DCP (Rural), said that based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against Nikhil under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Five police teams have been formed to nab the accused.A senior police officer said Nikhil allegedly possessed a country-made pistol. Initial investigation revealed that in 2018, he had allegedly shot and injured his younger brother following a dispute.
