NEW DELHI: Umar-un-Nabi, accused in the 2025 Red Fort car blast, stored his urine in a polythene bag while hiding in Nuh, according to the NIA chargesheet.The unusual practice came to light after the woman who owned the house complained to her husband about a foul smell from the room.According to the agency, he did not leave the room to dispose of his urine and instead stored it in a polythene bag.“He did not go outside to dispose of it and thus a foul smell was emanating from the room, prompting the woman to complain to her husband,” the chargesheet said.According to NIA, a PDF recovered from the pen drives of the accused described a method for preparing explosive substances using ‘urea nitrate’ and referred to an alternative source of urea.“Interestingly, an innovative method for preparing explosive substances using urea nitrate has been elaborated in a PDF material seized from the pen drives of the accused wherein an alternative method for the source of urea is mentioned as — ‘extracting urea from urine’.”The NIA has alleged that Nabi, who was killed in the November 2025 Red Fort car blast, was the mastermind and operational in-charge of a revived Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) terror module.According to the chargesheet, Nabi, also known as Pinda and Rahul Bhat, had been working since early 2022 to revive the dormant module and build a network of radicalised people for carrying out terrorist activities.The agency described him as the “operational in-charge” of AGuH Interim, which it identified as a revived manifestation of Al-Qaida.The NIA has alleged that Nabi radicalised recruits, glorified acts of “Shahadat” or martyrdom, arranged clandestine meetings, facilitated terror training and managed logistics for the module.The chargesheet also says he had planned to travel to Afghanistan for “Hijrat” as his association with the group’s extremist ideology grew.
‘Lone Mujahid Pocket Book’
The agency has also referred to the seizure of a terror manual, “Lone Mujahid Pocket Book”, which was published in “Inspire” magazine, affiliated with Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), and was allegedly being followed by the module.According to the NIA, the manual contained operational information relating to explosives, weapons, vehicles, arson and covert activities, including chapters on TATP and remote-control mechanisms for detonating IEDs.The chargesheet says Nabi also bought a new T-shirt, a wine-coloured shirt and green-coloured cargo pants from a shop in Nuh on November 7, paying in cash.
A revived module
The NIA alleges that Nabi and other members of the module possessed and circulated extremist literature advocating armed struggle and violence.The material examined during the investigation included documents titled “Definition of Jihad”, “The Requirements of Jihad”, “The 21 Aims and Objectives of Jihad”, “39 Ways to Serve and Participate in Jihad” and “44 Ways to Support Jihad”.According to the agency, the literature sought to justify violent extremism and portrayed armed struggle as a religious obligation.The material also allegedly contained instructions on operational secrecy, concealment, the use of false identities and different forms of terrorist attacks.The accused allegedly remained in contact through encrypted messaging applications, including Signal.The NIA has further alleged that Nabi helped arrange funds, procure illegal weapons and secure locations for members of the module and materials linked to the alleged conspiracy.Meetings were allegedly held in Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi-NCR, where members were trained and preparations made for terrorist activities.
The Red Fort blast
The agency says the vehicle that exploded near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025 had been converted into a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED).According to the chargesheet, Nabi and a co-accused had procured a second-hand car as part of the alleged conspiracy.Nabi was inside the vehicle when it exploded, the chargesheet states. DNA examination of biological material recovered from the blast site allegedly confirmed his identity.Forensic examination of post-blast material detected traces of TATP and ammonium nitrate, according to the NIA.The agency has alleged that the explosive device was initiated from inside the vehicle through a command mechanism.The blast took place at around 6.50pm near the Red Fort. Eleven people were killed and 29 injured, according to the investigation. The explosion also damaged surrounding property and vehicles.The NIA has alleged that the attack was the culmination of a wider conspiracy involving the revival of the AGuH module, radicalisation of recruits and preparations for terrorist activities.
