HYDERABAD: Lingamaneni Sanjush, son of Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha MP and Jana Sena functionary Lingamaneni Ramesh, said on Friday that he did not flee the scene after the August 16 road accident in which 26-year-old mall employee Bharati Mukhi was fatally injured.Sanjush said he immediately took Bharati to Apollo Hospital in his vehicle to ensure she received medical treatment. She later died while undergoing treatment, he said.He also said he went to the police station himself after the accident, informed officers about the incident and cooperated with the investigation.Sanjush said police conducted a breath analyser test, urine test and blood test to determine whether he had consumed alcohol or drugs, and all three tests returned negative.Madhapur police had booked Sanjush, 21, for rash and negligent driving after his Aston Martin allegedly hit Bharati near Inorbit Mall around 3pm on August 16. According to the FIR, Bharati, a salesgirl at Lifestyle store in the mall, was crossing the road when she was hit by the car. She suffered a severe head injury.The complaint, lodged by the Lifestyle manager, said Bharati and a colleague had gone to a nearby hotel to collect food and were returning to the mall when the accident occurred. Sanjush allegedly took Bharati to Apollo Hospital in the same car, where doctors declared her dead.Police registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with causing death by a rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide and carries a punishment of up to five years in jail and a fine.Madhapur assistant commissioner of police Ch Sridhar said no arrest had been made as the offence was bailable. Police said notices had been issued to Sanjush and that he had tested negative for alcohol and drugs.Sanjush expressed grief over Bharati’s death and conveyed his condolences to her family. He urged investigators to consider the circumstances of the accident, his efforts to take Bharati to hospital, his subsequent visit to the police station and the medical test results while examining the case.Cyberabad police commissioner M Ramesh Reddy said all procedures had been followed in the case. The vehicle involved in the accident is registered in the name of Honer Prime Housing.Sanjush is listed as a director in Black Ridge Energy and Capital Energy and studied computer science at the University of Texas at Dallas in the US. An email sent to Sanjush and Lingamaneni Ramesh seeking a response remained unanswered.
