Banks closed tomorrow: Why branches will remain shut in Tripura on August 19
Bank holiday on August 19

If you are planning a bank visit on Wednesday, August 19, you may want to check your state’s holiday calendar first. Banks in Tripura will remain closed tomorrow to mark the birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. The holiday, however, is not applicable to banks across India. Bank holidays differ from one state to another as regional festivals and local observances are taken into account while preparing the holiday calendar. So, while customers in Tripura will not be able to access their bank branches tomorrow, banking operations will continue as usual in states where August 19 is not a bank holiday.

When are banks closed later this month?

There are several more bank holidays scheduled across different states in August. On August 25, banks in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh will remain closed for Milad-Un-Nabi/First Onam/Milad-i-Sherif (Birthday of Prophet Muhammed). On August 26, banks in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand will remain closed for Id-E-Milad/Baravafat/Milad-un-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Mohammad)/Thiruvonam.On August 28, branches in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh will remain closed for Raksha Bandhan/Pang-Lhabsol/Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi/Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi/Ayyankali Jayanthi.Banks also remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month under the RBI’s holiday guidelines.

Can you still use banking services?

A bank holiday only affects branch operations, so customers do not have to put all banking transactions on hold. Internet banking, mobile banking apps, ATMs and UPI platforms will continue to be available for services such as fund transfers, bill payments and account management. However, transactions that require a physical visit to a branch, including cheque processing, issuance of demand drafts and large cash transactions, will not be available when branches are shut. Customers planning such transactions should therefore complete them before the holiday.
