NEW DELHI: Heavy rain brought Delhi and Gurgaon to a standstill on Friday, with widespread waterlogging, flooded roads and severe traffic congestion disrupting normal life across the National Capital Region (NCR).Here are 10 videos that capture the extent of the rain chaos, from flooded roads and submerged vehicles to traffic snarls across Delhi and Gurgaon.Several parts of Delhi were inundated after relentless rainfall, while Gurgaon witnessed major traffic snarls as commuters struggled to navigate waterlogged roads.The Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway was among the worst-affected stretches, with vehicles moving at a crawl and long queues reported at several locations.Delhi recorded 127 mm of rainfall during the first seven days of August, making it the wettest first week of the month since 2011, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).Several weather stations recorded more than 100 mm of rain during the day.The downpour also caused waterlogging at Safdarjung Hospital, where rainwater entered parts of the premises, inconveniencing patients and their attendants. Several people were forced to wade through knee-deep water.In Gurgaon, Golf Course Road was heavily waterlogged near Global Foyer Mall in DLF Sector 42, while long queues of vehicles were reported on several stretches.A large section of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway near Cyber Hub, opposite Gateway Tower Metro station, was also submerged.Sheetla Mata Road, one of Gurgaon’s flood-prone stretches, was inundated again.Waterlogging was also reported in Rajendra Park, Daultabad Industrial Area and nearby residential colonies, raising concerns over the city’s drainage and road infrastructure.The waterlogging and traffic disruptions also affected daily routines.Several companies announced work-from-home arrangements, while schools in Gurgaon declared a holiday and shifted classes online.The prolonged spell of rain also pushed temperatures well below normal.The IMD had issued a red alert for Delhi and forecast very light to moderate rain on Saturday, with similar weather conditions expected over the next few days.The minimum temperature at Safdarjung, which represents the city’s weather, was recorded at 24.7 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees below normal and 0.9 degree lower than Friday.Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius, down 0.7 degree from the previous day. Lodhi Road recorded 24.4 degrees Celsius, while Ayanagar recorded 24.7 degrees, a decline of 0.1 degree from Friday.The minimum temperature at Safdarjung, which represents the city’s weather, was recorded at 24.7 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees below normal and 0.9 degree lower than Friday.Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius, down 0.7 degree from the previous day.
