Trump angry over leak of US weapons shortage as Iran talks enter crucial phase: Report
Trump upset by leak on US weapons stockpile during high-stakes Iran talks

US President Donald Trump is reportedly angry over media reports claiming that the US military’s stockpile of some advanced weapons has fallen during its months-long war with Iran.According to a CNN report, Trump believes the leaks could weaken the US position at a crucial stage of negotiations with Iran, especially as he continues to threaten further military action to pressure Tehran into accepting a deal. The issue reportedly dominated last week’s Cabinet meeting at Camp David. Citing six people familiar with the meeting, CNN said Trump was frustrated that details about US munitions had become public. However, the sources said Trump had known for months about possible shortages and was not caught off guard by the reports.Officials said Trump was particularly upset because the information surfaced at a sensitive moment, when he wanted to project strength in dealing with Iran.Responding to the reports, Trump wrote on Truth Social: “The US has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the US as needed. Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country’s history.”At the same time, Trump acknowledged that some reports were accurate. He said his administration would seek “long term jail sentences” for those responsible for leaking the information. Later, speaking in the Oval Office, he admitted that some advanced munitions were in “tighter” supply, while saying there was a “virtual unlimited supply” of less-advanced weapons.Vice President JD Vance also struck a cautious tone on the negotiations, describing Iran as “extraordinarily difficult people” and criticising what he called Tehran’s “fracture system.”Vance also said the Iranians were “crazy radicals who want the war to continue.”Meanwhile, the Trump administration continues to push for an agreement with Iran, with disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran’s long-standing nuclear programme remaining key points of concern.
