Bank holidays in August 2026: Where and when banks will remain closed this month

August is set to bring a series of bank holidays, so if you’re planning a visit to your bank branch, it may be worth checking the holiday calendar first. Banks are scheduled to remain closed on different dates across states due to regional festivals and local observances, with the holiday calendar varying from one state to another.Customers should therefore verify whether their local branch is open before visiting. In addition to festival-related holidays, banks across the country will also remain shut on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, as per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines. Although digital banking services will continue uninterrupted, branch-based services will not be available on these days.

When and where will banks remain closed?

  • 4 August: Banks in Tripura will remain closed on account of Ker Puja.
  • 8 August: Banks in Sikkim will remain closed for Tendong Lho Rum Faat.
  • 13 August: Banks in Manipur will remain shut on the occasion of Patriot’s Day.
  • 15 August: Banks across the country will remain closed for Independence Day and Parsi New Year.
  • 19 August: Banks in Tripura will remain closed for the Birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
  • 25 August: Banks in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh will remain closed on account of Milad-Un-Nabi/First Onam/Milad-i-Sherif (Birthday of Prophet Muhammed).
  • 26 August: Banks in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand will remain closed for Id-E-Milad/Baravafat/Milad-un-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Mohammad)/Thiruvonam.
  • 28 August: Banks in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh will remain closed for Raksha Bandhan/Pang-Lhabsol/Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi/Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi/Ayyankali Jayanthi.

Despite these holidays, digital banking services will continue to remain available. Customers can use internet banking, mobile banking apps, ATMs and UPI platforms for services such as fund transfers, bill payments and account management. However, services requiring a visit to a bank branch, including cheque processing, issuance of demand drafts and large cash transactions, will not be available on bank holidays. Customers are advised to plan such work in advance to avoid inconvenience.
