E-2-wheelers cross 2L mark as EV sales soar

NEW DELHI/ CHENNAI: India’s EV market hit a new high in July with registrations across categories jumping over 66% to around 3.3 lakh units, compared with just under 2 lakh units in July 2025, amid elevated oil prices, a wider choice of models and expanding dealer networks. Last June 3.1 lakh EVs were registered across the country, according to Vahan data.Electric two-wheelers drove most of the growth, crossing 2-lakh monthly mark for first time. Registrations rose to 2,04,201 units in July from about 1.95 lakh in June and around 1.1 lakh in the year-ago period. Electric models accounted for around 11.2% of all two-wheelers registered in the month, up from 10.6% in June. Average monthly electric two-wheeler registrations have climbed to around 1.7 lakh units in 2026, compared with 1.1 lakh last year, reflecting stronger consumer acceptance and the growing availability of scooters across price segments.TVS Motor retained its leadership, registering 55,465 electric two-wheelers in July, up from 47,418 in June. Bajaj Auto remained second with 45,562 Chetak registrations, compared to 43,505 units in the previous month.Ather Energy ranked third, despite registrations easing to 30,317 units from 31,440 in June. Hero MotoCorp’s Vida increased volumes to 22,883 units from 21,893, while Ola Electric’s registrations declined to 14,102 units from 16,249.Electric passenger vehicles, however, lost some momentum after a record June. Registrations eased to 32,660 units from 33,441 in the preceding month, although sales remained significantly higher than a year earlier. Tata Motors maintained its lead in the electric car and SUV segment, with registrations rising to 13,568 units from 12,766 in June.
