‘Some baba was saying, burn him alive’: Pappu Yadav alleges knife attack was a plot to kill him | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: Purnia MP Pappu Yadav on Sunday alleged that there was a plot to kill him after a clash broke out at his Delhi residence during a press conference, claiming, “Some ‘baba’ was saying, ‘Burn him alive,’ while others were saying, ‘Kill him.‘ If people hadn’t been here, I would have been finished.”Yadav claimed that the incident was an attempt to assassinate him and alleged that a bounty had been announced against him. He said the person involved in the incident was carrying a knife and was handed over to the police by his supporters.“I only asked Champat Rai or Giri Ji, where did the 200 kg of silver go? Where did the gold go?… The Delhi Police is quite capable. I have been demanding security for a long time now. What crime have I committed?” Pappu Yadav told ANI.The clash took place while Yadav was addressing a press conference at his residence, where individuals allegedly attempted to confront him, leading to a scuffle between them and his supporters.The incident comes days after Yadav participated in an Opposition skit inside the Parliament complex on July 31, in which he wore saffron robes and portrayed a temple priest while raising allegations related to donations collected for the Ram Mandir.During the performance, other Opposition MPs enacted a scene involving a donation box and alleged irregularities, drawing sharp criticism from BJP leaders.BJP leaders, including Bansuri Swaraj and several MLAs, filed police complaints in New Delhi, alleging that the skit hurt religious sentiments.A separate FIR was also registered in Varanasi following a complaint by a religious leader.Another police complaint was lodged against Yadav by petitioner Surya Maithil at Jehangirpuri Police Station in Delhi.Following Sunday’s incident, Yadav alleged that the attack attempt was linked to the backlash over the Parliament skit. He reiterated that he escaped because his supporters intervened at the right time.Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the clash.(With agency inputs)
