Double podium for India in para athletics
India celebrated a one-two finish in the men’s F57 shot put as Soman Rana and Shubham Juyal occupied the top two places.Rana clinched gold with a season-best effort of 13.40 metres, finishing 0.12 metres ahead of compatriot Juyal, whose own season-best throw of 13.28 metres earned silver. Cameroon’s Cedric Azamdzi completed the podium with a best mark of 12.57 metres.The result gave India another memorable double podium during an outstanding day across multiple disciplines.
Triple jump duo delivers another double podium
India added two more athletics medals in the men’s triple jump.Praveen Chithravel secured silver with a best leap of 16.58 metres, finishing just 0.14 metres behind Jamaica’s Jordan Scott, who claimed gold with 16.72 metres.Selva Prabhu Thirumaran completed India’s double podium by winning bronze with a jump of 16.52 metres, ensuring two Indians stood alongside Scott on the medal podium.
Gulveer Singh adds historic distance-running medal
Gulveer Singh produced one of India’s standout performances on the track by winning bronze in the men’s 5,000 metres.He crossed the line in 13:24.95, finishing just 0.04 seconds ahead of Kenya’s Cornelius Kemboi in fourth after an intense battle over the closing metres.Australia’s Ky Robinson claimed gold, while Kenya’s Michael Kiplangat Kipsang took silver.The podium finish marked another landmark achievement for Indian athletics and added to Gulveer’s successful Commonwealth Games campaign.
Unnati Sharma claims judo bronze
India’s medal tally also received a boost in judo through Unnati Sharma.Competing in the women’s -63kg bronze-medal bout, Sharma defeated South Africa’s Skye Knoester by Ippon in just one minute and seven seconds after executing a decisive leg hook that ended the contest immediately.The victory ensured India finished another successful day with medals spread across boxing, para athletics, athletics and judo.
