Claude outage: Anthropic confirms elevated errors across models
Claude is down. Anthropic has confirmed the outage affecting its Claude AI assistant, with users reporting failed requests and “529 Overloaded” errors across multiple AI models. The company said it has identified the issue and is working to restore services after elevated errors and latency disrupted Claude and applications that rely on its API.
Anthropic confirms Claude service disruption
Anthropic first acknowledged the issue at 5:57 UTC on July 30, saying it was investigating elevated errors affecting many Claude models. In an update posted at 6:26 UTC, the company said: “All models except Opus 5 have recovered. We’re working to recover Opus 5 as well.”Earlier, Anthropic had said it had identified the issue and was working on a fix.
Claude users see ‘529 Overloaded’ error
During the outage, users attempting to access Claude or applications powered by Anthropic’s API encountered error messages. One of the most common messages displayed was: “API Error: 529 Overloaded. This is a server-side issue, usually temporary — try again in a moment.” A 529 Overloaded error generally indicates that servers are unable to handle the current volume of incoming requests. The disruption affected not only the Claude chatbot but also third-party tools and services that depend on Anthropic’s API. Users reported failed requests, higher latency and interrupted AI responses while the incident was ongoing.Anthropic said it has already seen recovery across most Claude models but warned that some users may continue to experience errors until the issue is fully resolved.
