NEW DELHI: Even as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) remains locked in a standoff with the Centre over its demand for the withdrawal of FIRs against student, its founder Abhijeet Dipke has been putting another major life decision on hold.According to his mother, Anita Dipke, the 26-year-old activist has been receiving marriage proposals for the past two years but has refused to consider them until he completes his studies and becomes financially independent.She said, “Marriage proposals have been coming for him for some time now. They have been coming for the past two years, but he has said that he will get married only after completing his studies and becoming financially independent.”The remarks come at a time when Dipke is recovering from typhoid while continuing to lead the CJP’s campaign over the alleged police action against student protesters.In a post on X, Dipke alleged that students were still facing harassment by the police despite the government’s assurances and warned that the outfit would return to the streets if the alleged targeting continued.“If the harassment of students at the hands of the police continues, the Cockroach Janta Party will respond with a massive peaceful protest soon. The government must stop targeting and witch-hunting students,” Dipke said.The CJP had on Saturday called off its 36-day agitation at Jantar Mantar after announcing that the Centre had accepted its key demands, including the resignation of then Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, withdrawal of FIRs against protesters, an assurance against retaliatory action and a commitment to consider broader examination reforms.However, the truce appeared short-lived.On Monday, the outfit demanded the immediate release of arrested protesters, withdrawal of all criminal cases and a written assurance that no fresh FIRs would be registered. It warned that the agitation would resume if the commitments were not fulfilled.Escalating its stand further, the CJP on Tuesday warned of a fresh nationwide protest, alleging that the Centre was using the Supreme Court’s interim order in a batch of PILs related to the agitation as a reason to avoid issuing the promised written assurance on withdrawing the FIRs.The outfit said it would not withdraw any fresh agitation until “full accountability” was ensured and urged Parliament to debate the alleged police brutality during the July 20 protest, including fixing responsibility “not just of the police but also of the home minister”.Speaking to PTI Videos, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said government representatives had informed the outfit during talks on Tuesday that the issue had become “sub judice” following the Supreme Court’s interim order and that the promised written assurance had not yet been provided.“They are now using that order and wanting to go back on the guarantees that they gave to the youth of this country. If the government does not honour its word and the agreements, we will be forced to again call for a big protest, not just in Delhi but nationwide,” Das said.
