Govt must stop targeting, witch-hunting students: CJP warns of fresh peaceful protest
Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke warns of fresh peaceful protest

NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Tuesday warned of a fresh nationwide protest if the harassment of students by the police continues. In a post on X, Dipke said, “If the harassment of students at the hands of the police continues, the Cockroach Janta Party will respond with a massive peaceful protest soon. The Govt must stop targeting and witch-hunting students.“Earlier, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said government representatives had shared copies of notifications issued by the Bihar and Assam governments guaranteeing withdrawal of FIRs, no future action against protesters and the release of those detained or arrested during the NEET-UG agitation. Taking to X, Das said, “Hours after our press conference, Government’s representatives met us. The meeting lasted for 2-3 hours. They shared copies of the Bihar and Assam notifications guaranteeing FIR withdrawals, no action in future, and release of all detainees and arrestees”.“They’ve reiterated their promise of releasing guarantee notifications by the Union government and other BJP/NDA states by tomorrow. Hopefully, the agreed-upon language shall be used”, he further added.Separately, Das had shared the Assam government’s order on X, saying, “Next up, Assam Government guarantees release of all arrested protesters, no FIRs or action in future, and withdrawal of all existing FIRs.” In another post, he said, “After Bihar and Assam notifications, we have just been guaranteed that no authority will proceed against protesters in Rajasthan. No FIRs have been registered. None will be. We are continuously working to ensure all other risky BJP/NDA states release notifications in the required language in protesters’ interest. We will never let any youth fight this alone!” The Assam government on Monday announced that it would withdraw cases and other legal proceedings initiated against people who participated in protests over the alleged NEET-UG examination irregularities. According to a press release issued by Assam’s Home and Political Department, five cases had been registered in connection with the protests, leading to the arrest of 13 people. The government said that no adverse legal action would be initiated by any police authority in the state against those involved in the protests. It also said the process of withdrawing all registered cases would be initiated in accordance with the law, while the review and release of those arrested would be carried out expeditiously. The press note further stated that the government does not propose to take any further adverse action against the individuals involved in the protests and that the matter would be treated as closed without any future proceedings. The agitation was called off on July 25 after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union education minister. The government had then agreed with CJP and activist Sonam Wangchuk to withdraw cases, prevent police intimidation and introduce anti-paper leak legislation.(With Agency Inputs)
