The examination was also significantly limited by decomposition and the absence of key neck structures, making it impossible to fully evaluate several critical areas.Investigators were unable to determine whether Wells had water in his airway or stomach, or whether he was conscious when he entered the water. Toxicology testing and the official Mississippi autopsy remain pending.The case has attracted national attention since Wells disappeared during a July Fourth trip to Horn Island. Friends told investigators he stayed behind after meeting a girl while the rest of the group returned by boat. Authorities have since interviewed roughly 60 witnesses, while the FBI has assisted with digital evidence collected during the investigation.Law enforcement officials continue to say there are currently no arrests or criminal charges connected to the case.
