Jeff Bezos believes that AI can help you support your family while working three days a week. In an interview with Fox News recently, the Amazon founder told host Bret Baier he believes AI’s productivity gains could let some people decide, “I can support my family by working three days a week.” Bezos further claimed that in families where both partners work, one person may choose to stop working if they no longer need a second income. While Jeff Bezos did not explain how this could happen, he backed the argument by stating that AI may lead to labor shortages rather than large-scale job losses.

During the interview, Jeff Bezos stated that he does not believe that AI will result in job cuts. A “lot of smart people are prognosticating” AI-driven job losses, Bezos said adding “I just happen to disagree with those smart people.”When the host pointed at nearly 30,000 job cuts at Amazon in the last 12 months, Jeff Bezos blamed the company’s hiring spree and its rapid headcount growth after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Host Bret Baier also asked Jeff Bezos about his comments that AI was kind of an “industrial bubble” that is “good.”The billionaire replied saying: “What happens in these industrial bubbles…speculators can lose money because they’re investing in all of these things. But the inventions don’t disappear when the bubble pops.”Asked if the world was witnessing a bubble right now, Jeff Bezos replied: “It’s very hard to know. What I do know is the technology is real.” He further argued that a bubble can be good for society, if not investors, because it allows every idea to be funded.

Recently, President Donald Trump rebranded artificial intelligence, AI to super intelligence, SI. Bezos said that he like SI because “artificial is not a very flattering thing…Nobody wants an artificial sweetener or artificial flavoring. Artificial sort of means fake.”
