Pm Modi: Will those whose earnings have stopped love me: PM Modi amid SIR row | India News
NEW DELHI: Amid a rapid absorption of mobile phones and technology PM Narendra Modi called for a global effort to tackle cyber frauds and deepfakes, while asserting that phones were no longer communication devices but a powerful tool of governance.Addressing the India Mobile Congress, the PM said his govt had leveraged technology and connectivity for direct benefit transfer of Rs 50 lakh crore, which helped plug leakages of nearly Rs 5 lakh crore. “Those whose easy earnings have stopped, will they love Modi? …They may shout and scream as much as they want, but I will continue in this direction,” he said at a time when opposition has mounted pressure over SIR.Recalling launch of 5G from the same platform in 2022, he sought to contrast the situation over a decade back when “digital divide was a challenge (and) new tech was becoming a privilege”. Now, the “telecom revolution”, he said, is driving service delivery, content, including in local languages, and gaming, but it came with challenges.“At a time when telecom and digital technology are playing such a critical role, it is equally important that we strengthen the security framework associated with them,” PM said, while urging govts, technology companies, telecom operators, and financial institutions to work together.

“I urge GSMA and telecom operators to come together and create a global mechanism to stop frauds even before they reach people. India has learned a great deal through its own experiences, and is ready to share the same with the world.”Modi said the telecom boom was driven by a well-crafted policy framework, which sought to untangle the sector and also reduce AGR and other liabilities.
