Nana Patekar’s death case: Goa Police registers 'unnatural death' case; to record statements of family and conduct post-mortem to establish cause of death

The Goa Police have registered a medico-legal ‘Unnatural Death’ (UD) case in connection with the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar. As per the latest update on IANS, an inquiry is underway to establish the circumstances and exact cause of the actor’s death. As per a post on the IANS official handle, a case has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS, with PSI Nitin Naik conducting the inquiry. An entry in the case registered at Panjim, stated that the actor was “brought dead to the casualty from Ocean Park, Dona Paula. Accordingly visited the spot at Manipal Hospital Bambolim at concern ward and matter was discussed with Medical Officer.”As part of the investigation, police will conduct an inquest, arrange a post-mortem examination at Goa Medical College (GMC) and record statements from family members and other relevant persons to determine the cause of death.Police are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death. If the investigation establishes that the death was due to natural causes, the case may be closed accordingly. However, if any evidence of foul play or other suspicious circumstances emerges, further legal action may follow. This update comes after Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, told the media early Thursday morning, “We tried here to our maximum, but he was brought dead and then we had to make a police case. The body has now been taken to the morgue in Goa Medical College for postmortem. It was a cardiac arrest, but we do not know the cause.”The doctor also mentioned, “He was a known cardiac patient and was on medication, as far as we have been told.”Patekar, died early Thursday morning after suffering a reported cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. Doctors at Manipal Hospital reportedly administered CPR for around 45 minutes in an attempt to revive him, however, he was declared dead at 5.20 am.The post-mortem examination was reportedly conducted on Thursday morning, after which the actor’s mortal remains were released for his last rites. Patekar was cremated with full state honours at his farmhouse in Donje in Pune district late Thursday night. He was given a 3-gun salute.
