Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, a new all-electric four-door grand tourer. The Type 01 is the first production Jaguar to use the company’s dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). It has been designed, engineered and crafted in the UK, with production set to begin in 2027 at JLR’s Solihull facility.The new model combines a low roofline, long bonnet, short front overhang and extended rear section with large 23-inch wheels. Jaguar says the design was developed from a blank sheet and refined in the wind tunnel. The car has a claimed drag coefficient of 0.23, making it the most aerodynamic Jaguar to date.The Type 01 is also claimed to be the most technically advanced Jaguar ever engineered, with more than 360 patent applications.
Jaguar Type 01 Gets Up To 1,016 hp
The Type 01 uses a tri-motor electric powertrain with Intelligent Torque Vectoring. Jaguar says the system can produce up to 1,016 hp and 1,365 Nm, making it the most powerful Jaguar road car yet.The electric GT can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 3.2 seconds. It can also go from 100-180 kmph in 4.0 seconds, highlighting the carmaker’s focus on strong rolling acceleration rather than just outright launch performance.Jaguar says the car has a 50:50 weight distribution and offers two dynamic characters, combining performance with a focus on refined comfort. Technology developed with the Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E team has also been used to tune its driving characteristics.
Up To 643 KM Of EPA Range
Power comes from a 118 kWh usable battery paired with an 850-volt electrical architecture. Jaguar expects the Type 01 to offer an EPA range of up to 643 kilometers, while its sustained highway-speed range is rated at up to 514 km.The car supports 350 kW rapid DC charging and can add up to 321 km of range in as little as 13 minutes, according to Jaguar. The company also says the Type 01 should allow customers to complete up to 99.7 per cent of journeys without interruption. The manufacturer estimates up to 720 km of range under the WLTP cycle.
Four-Seat Cabin With 24-Inch OLED Display
The Type 01 gets a four-seat cabin with a central spine running through its length. Brass-effect elements on either side further highlight the layout of the interior and separate the individual spaces for occupants.A single 24-inch glass OLED display serves as the driver’s main interface. A separate seven-inch touchscreen, designed in a smartphone-style format, is positioned between the driver and front passenger for frequently used functions.The cabin also features a full-width, full-range Panoramic Soundbar, which Jaguar describes as an automotive first. The system is paired with Sensory Audio seats.
Jaguar Type 01 Price And Launch Timeline
Jaguar will begin accepting orders for the Type 01 in early 2027. Prices will start at £130,000 GBP, with the first customer deliveries expected in the second half of 2027.The car will be manufactured in the UK. Electric Drive Units and battery packs will be produced in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will be made at Halewood in Merseyside. Production of the Type 01 itself will take place at JLR’s Solihull operations.
The Type 01 is also the first model in Jaguar’s new generation of cars. According to the company, the name refers to its heritage and electric future, with “Type” referencing Jaguar’s historic models, “0” representing zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marking the first model of the new generation.
