IndiGo is set to raise fuel charges on both domestic and international flights from Tuesday, as aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs continue to climb. The revised charges will apply to all new bookings made after 0001 hrs on October 6, 2026.The fuel charge on international routes will range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000, while the charge on domestic flights will depend on the distance travelled, ranging from 375 rupees ($3.89) to 1300 rupees.For domestic routes of up to 500 km, the revised fuel charge will be Rs 375. It will rise to Rs 600 for journeys between 501 km and 1,000 km, and to Rs 900 for routes covering 1,001 km to 1,500 km. Flights between 1,501 km and 2,000 km will attract a charge of Rs 1,150, while those covering more than 2,000 km will carry a Rs 1,300 fuel charge.The airline said ATF prices have remained volatile in recent months, particularly following geopolitical issues in the Middle East. The latest month-on-month increase of more than 14% has taken ATF costs to levels among the highest in the last decade.IndiGo said the sustained rise in ATF costs had required it to re-calibrate fuel charges across its domestic and international routes. Aviation turbine fuel makes up a significant share of an airline’s operating costs, and the rise in fuel costs is expected to impact airlines’ cost structures and network economics, including those of IndiGo.Meanwhile, the Middle East conflict has now stretched beyond seven months, keeping oil markets on edge. However, despite the recent spike, oil prices remain well below the $126-a-barrel levels seen earlier in the conflict.
