Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said they launched ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi Aramco facilities in Riyadh and the Khurais area, claiming the strikes triggered major fires at the targeted sites, newsy agency Reuters reported. The group said the operation was carried out in response to Saudi-led coalition strikes on Yemen. Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree claimed that up to 60 airstrikes and missile attacks had been carried out against Sanaa and other areas under Houthi control in the past 24 hours.“The operation successfully achieved its objective, thanks to Allah,” Saree said. “The strikes were precise and direct, resulting in fire breaking out at the targeted sites,” he added. There was no immediate Saudi confirmation of the Houthi claim regarding the Aramco facility in Riyadh.Yemen’s internationally recognised government, meanwhile, confirmed strikes against what it called “vital targets” in Houthi-controlled Sanaa and Saada.“We are delivering painful strikes against vital targets of the terrorist Houthi militia in Sanaa and Saada,” its armed forces spokesperson said, warning that Houthi military capabilities would remain under attack.“The capabilities of the Houthi militia will not be safe from the fire of our armed forces, and we will destroy them,” the spokesperson added. The Houthis warned of further escalation, saying, “We will continue to impose the equation of “a siege for a siege”, and “an escalation for escalation”, and targeting the Saudi enemy’s troop buildups until the aggression ceases and the siege on our beloved country is lifted.”
