KOTTAYAM: Two nurses from Kottayam were among five people killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia’s Makkah province on Friday, the weekend holiday in the kingdom.The deceased are Jaicymol Mathew, 46, wife of Freddy Jose of Kidangoor, and Jobina Johny, 26, of Vedagiri. Their colleagues Vijayalakshmi Jagadeesh, 36, and Hepsiba Devamani, 33, both from Tamil Nadu, also died, as did a Saudi national who was driving the vehicle. Hepsiba is a native of Pattukkottai in Thanjavur.Jaicymol is the daughter of the late Mathai and Eliamma of Kondoor, Mattakkara. Her funeral will be held at St Mary’s Knanaya Forane Church, Kidangoor. Jobina is survived by her mother, Beena, and a brother. Her funeral will be held at St Mary’s Church, Vedagiri.

The women worked at Al Gafa and Al Aweyla govt dispensaries in Taif governorate under the Saudi ministry of health. They were travelling to Rania for shopping when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned about 40km from the town, according to reports. All five are said to have died on the spot.The bodies are kept in the mortuary of Rania General Hospital. Procedures to complete the official formalities and repatriate the bodies have begun, and the bodies are expected to reach Keralam within 15 days, sources said.
