8 Pune students on school picnic drown at Diveagar beach; bodies recovered | Pune News
PUNE: As many as eight students from Pune drowned at Diveagar beach in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Thursday while on a picnic organised by a private coaching institute.The group, comprising 42 students, comprising 25 boys, 17 girls, and six teachers, had travelled from Alandi in Pune to Diveagar.The students, from Classes XI and XII, were part of a group from private coaching class Winners Academy in Alandi, Pune district.The eight students, all reportedly studying in Class 11, entered the sea when the incident took place.Preliminary information suggests they may have misjudged the depth of the water.All eight bodies have been recovered and taken to the a primary health centre.Police and local authorities reached the spot and initiated further proceedings.Maharashtra ministers Bharat Gogawale and Aditi Tatkare were also reported to have contacted the administration following the incident.
Sunetra Pawar speaks to Raigad collector
Maharashtra deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar spoke to the Raigad district collector over the phone after learning about the incident and sought details of the situation.She directed the administration to closely monitor the situation and ensure that all necessary rescue, relief and assistance measures were undertaken promptly.Pawar also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased students and instructed officials to extend all possible support to them.Further details, including the identities of the deceased, are awaited.
