Bank holidays in October: When and where will banks remain closed? Check state-wise list

Bank customers planning branch visits in October will need to keep the month’s regional and festival holidays in mind, as branches will remain closed on different dates depending on the city. Since bank holidays can vary across regions, customers should check the schedule applicable to their particular branch before visiting.Banks observe both national and state-specific holidays, so a closure in one part of the country does not necessarily mean branches elsewhere will also be shut. In addition to these holidays, banks will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of October in line with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.Customers who need to make large cash deposits, get cheques processed or use other services that require a physical branch visit should plan such work around these closures.

When and where will banks remain closed in October

October 2: Banks will remain closed nationwide on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.October 10: Banks in Karnataka and West Bengal will remain closed on account of Mahalaya Amavasya.October 17: Banks in Tripura will remain closed on account of Maha Saptami.October 19: Banks in Tripura, Mizoram, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Meghalaya will remain closed on account of Dussehra (Mahashtami)/Maha Navami/Ayutha Pooja/Durga Puja/Vijaya Dashomi/Durga Ashtami.October 20: Banks in Tripura, Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chandigarh (UT), Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Assam, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir (UT), Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, Goa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh will remain closed on account of Dasara/Dussehra (Vijaya Dashami, also Sud-10)/Mahanavami, Ayudhapooja/Durga Puja.October 21: Banks in Tripura, Karnataka, Sikkim, Assam, West Bengal, Kerala and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed on account of Vijaya Dashami/Durga Puja (Dasain).October 22: Banks in Sikkim will remain closed on account of Durga Puja (Dasain).October 23: Banks in Sikkim will remain closed on account of Durga Puja (Dasain).October 26: Banks in Tripura will remain closed on account of Laxmi Puja/Accession Day/Maharishi Valmiki’s Birthday.October 29: Banks in Chandigarh (UT) and Jammu and Kashmir (UT), as well as Himachal Pradesh, will remain closed on account of Karva Chauth.October 31: Banks in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will remain closed on account of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday.

Digital banking services to continue

While branch operations will be affected on these holidays, customers will continue to have access to digital banking services. ATMs, UPI, internet banking and mobile banking apps will remain available for routine activities.Customers can use these facilities for fund transfers, bill payments and account management. However, services that require a physical visit to a branch, including cheque processing, issuance of demand drafts and large cash transactions, will not be available on bank holidays.Customers should therefore schedule branch-dependent work in advance and check the holiday applicable to their particular branch before making a visit.
