BEGUSARAI: The main accused in a hotel assault and rape case, Rohit Kumar Sahni, was arrested by Begusarai Police and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Samastipur district in Bihar.According to police, Sahni allegedly tried to escape after his arrest by jumping from a police jeep. He sustained injuries during the attempt and was subsequently referred to Begusarai Sadar Hospital for treatment.Superintendent of Police Manish said, “In the case involving the viral video of a woman being mistreated, both accused individuals have now been arrested. One arrest was made earlier today during the daytime, as you were previously informed. The second main accused, a person named Rohit Sahni, has also been arrested. He was arrested from Mohiuddinnagar, which falls under Samastipur district, where our team went and apprehended him. The first arrest was made within the city, from the urban area. As for whether he was trying to flee, we will gather more details during interrogation, but he was certainly caught outside our district. All these aspects are currently part of the investigation…”Earlier, a video of the incident, which has surfaced online, allegedly shows a woman being dragged by her hair and beaten with slippers by a man, who can also be heard hurling abuses at her.Begusarai SP Manish said an FIR was registered at the Begusarai Town police station late on Monday evening based on the woman’s complaint. According to police, the incident took place on Sunday in a hotel room located along NH-31 in the town area.“The woman, while on her way to work on Sunday, met her neighbour Vikram Manjhi, who persuaded her to get on his motorcycle and took her to a hotel on the highway. One Rohit Kumar, who was already present at the hotel, allegedly took her to a room on some pretext and later locked it from inside. The woman has accused Rohit of brutally assaulting and raping her,” the SP said.The officer said Rohit is a resident of the Bhagwanpur police station area. “The woman’s medical examination was conducted on Tuesday. Police have secured the hotel room where the incident is alleged to have taken place. An FSL team has also been deployed to assist in the investigation.
