Roger Federer’s relationship with Swiss sportswear company On developed into more than a traditional endorsement after he became an investor and helped create tennis footwear with the brand. Roger Federer’s financial legacy is much more than the $131 million or so he pocketed in ATP prize money over 24 years as a professional. The 20-time Grand Slam winner built a strong commercial portfolio based on his reputation, with big partnerships including Uniqlo, Rolex and Mercedes-Benz still supporting his earnings after he retired. The biggest shift came when Federer moved away from traditional sponsorships and took an ownership stake in Swiss sportswear company On. The strategy, however, was not limited to the reported $300 million Uniqlo deal or Federer’s long-standing luxury endorsements and business interests. It turned Federer’s tennis fame into a broader financial enterprise.

How Roger Federer built his $550 million fortune

Roger Federer’s playing career was the starting point, but endorsements and investments took on a bigger meaning in his overall financial profile. Forbes said his off-court earnings in a year peaked at $100 million, while he earned more than $130 million in ATP prize money. One of the defining moments of that transition was his move from Nike to Uniqlo in 2018. The reported deal was for $300 million over 10 years, structured to go beyond his playing days. After Federer retired from professional tennis in 2022, the commercial relationship was a key source of income post-competition.

Wealth driver Reported figure/details
ATP prize money More than $130 million
Uniqlo agreement Reported $300 million over 10 years
On Holding Reported roughly 2.5%–3% stake
Major endorsements Rolex, Mercedes-Benz and other global brands

Roger Federer’s equity deals reshaped his wealth

Roger Federer’s ON investment shows the difference between a traditional endorsement fee and having a stake in a company. In 2019, he became a co-owner and creative partner at On, taking an equity stake that has been widely reported at around 3%. The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021.With On’s growth worldwide, the investment was all the more substantial. Federer also worked on products including The Roger footwear line, taking the relationship beyond just wearing the brand to a commercial level. But the value of the stake has fluctuated with On’s share price. In August 2026, Forbes reported that Federer’s fortune had dropped to around $952.4 million after On shares plunged 19% on the back of weak quarterly sales. The report put Federer’s holding at around 2.5 per cent. That volatility also explains why estimates of Federer’s wealth can vary considerably depending on the date and valuation used.

Roger Federer’s endorsements extended his earning power

Federer’s commercial appeal has been tied closely to his meticulously constructed global image. He has endorsed brands such as Rolex, Mercedes-Benz, Lindt, Wilson, NetJets and other international companies, several of which he has kept a relationship with after his retirement. His sponsorship portfolio was named among the strongest in sports by Forbes. He’s also involved in business ventures including TEAM8, the management company he co-founded with longtime agent Tony Godsick, and the Laver Cup, the international team competition he helped establish. The Laver Cup has developed into a meaningful sports property, with revenue soaring from £23.2 million in 2024 to £35 million in 2025, as per the Financial Times.Federer’s foundation adds another layer to his business legacy. Forbes reports that the organization has invested nearly $100 million and helped more than three million children through education programs in Southern Africa and Switzerland.
