About 43,674 light-up children’s toys sold for around $1 from 2016 to 2026 are being recalled because their button batteries can be accessed without a tool, creating an ingestion and chemical-burn risk
Children’s toys are designed to attract attention with bright colours, sounds and lights, but some of those features can also introduce safety risks. On September 24, 2026, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of approximately 43,674 light-up children’s toys because their battery compartments do not meet mandatory safety requirements.The recalled products include light-up glasses, crown headbands, sparkle headbands and light-up ties. They were sold for around $1 between September 2016 and May 2026 at ABC Trading stores in Los Angeles, California, as well as other speciality stores across the US and online at abctradinginc.com.According to the CPSC, the toys contain button cell batteries in compartments that can be opened by children without the use of a tool. This violates the mandatory federal safety standard for toys containing button or coin batteries.Button cell and coin batteries can pose a particularly serious danger if swallowed by a child. Once ingested, a battery can become lodged in the body and trigger a chemical reaction that may cause severe internal burns and other potentially life-threatening injuries. In some cases, swallowing a button battery can result in death.
How to identify the recalled toys
The recalled toys were packaged in a large clear plastic bag. A white label printed in black identifies the products using one of three codes.The code ‘6502’ applies to the light-up ties, while ‘HD-10’ identifies the light-up headbands. The light-up glasses carry the code ‘L-508’.Each individual toy was also packaged inside clear plastic within the larger bag. The individual packaging carries a white label with black lettering stating: “MADE IN CHINA, Importer: ABC TRADING, INC.”The products were sold through ABC Trading stores in Los Angeles and other speciality retailers nationwide, as well as through the company’s website. The recall is listed by the CPSC under recall number ’26-799′.
What should consumers do?
The CPSC has advised consumers to immediately stop allowing children to use the recalled toys. Owners should contact ABC Trading to request a refund.As part of the refund process, consumers will be asked to email ‘recallabc@gmail.com’ with a photograph showing that the recalled product has been disposed of in the trash.The CPSC also cautioned that the button cell batteries themselves should not simply be discarded without consideration of local disposal requirements. Consumers should follow their local hazardous-waste protocols when disposing of the batteries.So far, no incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled toys.The recall highlights the risks posed by button and coin batteries in products intended for children. Because these small batteries can be difficult to spot but potentially dangerous if swallowed, parents and caregivers are advised to check recalled products carefully and keep loose batteries away from children.
