One of them is Lucinda Southworth, wife of Google co-founder Larry Page, a Stanford-trained scientist and one of the most prolific backers of high-tech ocean conservation. Notably, as the initiative does not list exact award figures, its financial scale has emerged strictly through investigative reporting by the publication, and since the data is until May 2022, it is highly likely that Oceankind has already poured more than $121 million into environmental programs. Unlike traditional American charitable foundations, which must submit open annual tax filings accessible to the public, Oceankind operates under a different corporate structure. The entity is registered in California as a limited liability company, exempting it from the disclosure rules governing conventional non-profit endowments. State business filings (via TechCrunch) indicate that the organisation is administered through the family office handling Page’s personal holdings, while Oceankind has confirmed that Southworth directly supplies its funding.
