BHAYANDER: The Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation on Wednesday cancelled the construction permission granted to Seven Eleven company, days after BJP MLA Narendra Mehta announced that his company would relinquish possession of the disputed land following the matter being taken up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.In another development, additional tehsildar Nilesh Gaund allowed a petition filed by 81-year-old Asgarali Vohra and ruled against Seven Eleven and other respondents. The order is expected to clear the way for Vohra’s name to be entered in the land records for the property currently in the possession of Seven Eleven, which had fenced off the plot with metal sheets.Vohra had alleged that Mehta and Swayam Builders had illegally encroached on the land at Navghar in Bhayander. He had been pursuing the dispute for around 15 years.On September 8, Vohra approached PM Modi, whom he described as his childhood friend from B N School in Vadnagar in Gujarat, and sought his intervention in the dispute. Soon after, Mehta announced that he would relinquish possession of the property and withdraw a complaint filed against Vohra.On Wednesday, Mehta issued a statement denying that he or his company had cheated anyone. He said the disputed land had been sold to Vohra in 1989 by Renol Lobo and five others. Lobo and the others later sold the land to Swayam Builders in 2011, he said.Mehta further claimed that Seven Eleven had purchased the property through duly registered transactions from Joseph Fernandes and Mukesh Parekh. He said the company decided to return the land to Mukesh Parekh and Mervin Fernandes after a dispute arose over the property.The BJP MLA maintained that surrendering possession and cancelling the transaction was a decision taken to end the dispute and did not amount to an admission of wrongdoing.
