GURGAON: Gurgaon road-rage complainant Sia has rejected accused gym owner Kalyan Bainsla’s claim that she was “playing a victim card” to gain more followers, saying she had deliberately kept her identity private and had never wanted her face or personal details made public.Sia, who also contested the 2022 Delhi election, said she chose to reveal her identity only after the media reached her home following the incident.“No one knew who Sia was. No one knew what her face was,” she said, adding that she had heard interviews given by Kalyan Bainsla, his lawyer and supporters and disagreed with their version of events.Sia or Shivani Chauhan said she had been a public figure before the incident, having contested the 2022 election and being, according to her, the youngest candidate in Delhi at the time.She said her decision not to reveal her identity was a personal choice and that she now intended to take a strong stand on the matter.She also said she recorded her statement before a magistrate on Tuesday, detailing what she alleged was harassment, chasing and an intentional attempt to kill her during the Sunday morning incident. She requested strict action in the case.Shivani said she underwent a medical examination after the incident and was currently stable, though she had suffered injuries.She said she was scheduled to undergo an MRI and an X-ray on Wednesday.On the police investigation, Shivani said she was not satisfied merely with the addition of charges or Bainsla’s arrest.She said she had learnt that Kalyan Bainsla had been arrested and demanded that the other occupants of the car also be arrested and punished.“Adding charges is not enough,” she said, adding that if Bainsla was released on bail after a few days, it would not amount to meaningful action. She said strict punishment was necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
What happened on Golf Course Road?
The case relates to an incident on Gurgaon’s Golf Course Road in which Bainsla, a gym owner, was accused of ramming his Maruti Suzuki Ciaz into Sia’s Aprilia RS 457 motorcycle. Sia had alleged that the car followed her, targeted her and deliberately hit her bike.Police arrested Bainsla in Rajasthan after a two-day search. His cousin Lovneesh, who allegedly helped him flee, and another accused, Pramod, were also apprehended.Police later added an attempt-to-murder charge to the FIR, along with stalking-related provisions.Police have said CCTV footage and videos from social media indicated that the motorcycle was deliberately hit. Bainsla, however, has denied any intention to harm Sia, with his lawyer claiming that he fled the spot fearing a mob and that the incident was an accident.Sia has maintained that she was deliberately targeted and has demanded strict action against all those involved.(With ANI inputs)
