GURGAON: Woman biker Sia, whose video of a car allegedly hitting her motorcycle on Golf Course Road went viral on Monday, responded late Monday night to the accused driver’s claims that the collision was accidental and that bikers were playing the “victim card”.In a video statement shared on Instagram, Sia said the footage clearly showed how the car followed the bikers before the collision and questioned the accused’s claim that he had been trying to avoid them.“It is very clear from the original video who was instigating whom. Even if we were changing our speeds frequently, that does not give you the right to chase us all the way. You came and asked me to stop the bike,” she said.She said two separate videos captured the collision from different angles.“One video shows you switching directly from the first to the third lane to hit and then run away. Another video, recorded by my camera from the front, shows you hitting me and your car violently colliding with my bike, eventually making me fall on the road,” she said.She questioned why the driver did not stop after the collision to check whether she was injured.“Aren’t these two videos enough? Why did you not stop to check on me? It was your responsibility to stop and check whether I had suffered any injuries after you knocked me down,” she said.Sia also pointed to the possibility of more serious consequences, asking what could have happened if she had suffered broken bones or died in the crash.“The videos clearly show the way he ran away after hitting my bike and did not even stay back to check whether the person he hit was dead or alive,” she said.Sia said the incident also highlighted how unsafe women can feel on the roads in Gurgaon and Delhi. She thanked people for supporting her and said she hoped the incident would encourage people to drive responsibly.The statement came after Kalyan Baisla, identified as the man who was driving the car, denied deliberately hitting Sia.Baisla claimed 22-23 bikers were riding aggressively, repeatedly overtaking his car and slowing down in front of it.He said Sia suddenly turned while he was taking a U-turn, leaving him little time to react, and claimed he had tried to avoid the collision.He also denied fleeing after the crash and said the videos circulating on social media had been edited by joining separate clips.The car’s owner, Manish, had earlier said that Baisla had borrowed the vehicle two days before the incident. Manish said he was at work when Baisla took the car and that he learnt about the accident only on Monday morning.Gurgaon Police has taken suo motu cognisance of the viral footage and registered an FIR at Sector 56 police station under sections 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said further sections would be considered after Sia’s complaint and medical report.
