‘He said stop bike’: Gurgaon woman biker recounts moments before speeding car chased, harassed, then knocked her down | Gurgaon News
GURGAON: A young woman was thrown off her superbike on Sunday after a man riding a car allegedly cut across her path, leaving her dangerously exposed to fast-moving traffic as she fell in the middle of Golf Course Road. The biker, scrambling for safety, narrowly escaped being run over as vehicles swept past her.The road rage was captured by an action camera mounted on the handle of her Aprilia RS 457. The footage the woman later shared on social media showed the moments leading up to the collision and what followed. The Maruti Ciaz driver gave a contrasting account of what led to the collision.Shivani Chauhan, who identified herself as Sia in the video, said she was riding with a group towards The Biker’s Barn cafe when the man driving the car (HR30Y4949) began following her on Sunday morning. She alleged its occupants repeatedly tried to catch up with her and asked her to pull over.“I told him to drive a little farther away. And he said, ‘stop the bike,’” she said in the video, adding that she suspected the occupants were drunk. She said she accelerated to stay ahead and prevent the car from cutting across her path.A friend riding behind also tried to shield her, placing his motorcycle between the Ciaz and Shivani as the car continued to make aggressive manoeuvres and tried to get alongside Shivani, repeatedly attempting to cut in front of her bike.He eventually succeeded in hitting her from the side. As the impact threw Shivani to the road, her motorcycle slid across the tar, the friction causing sparks that are visible in the video too. As the Ciaz drove away, one of her friends chased it and caught up with it at a traffic signal ahead. He confronted the driver and tried to open his door, asking him to step out. The driver denied responsibility and fled from the signal, Shivani alleged.Kalyan Baisla of Palwal, the car driver, claimed a group of 22-23 bikers was riding aggressively, repeatedly overtaking his car and slowing down in front of it. Contrary to what the video suggests, he said Shivani suddenly turned while he was taking a U-turn, leaving him with little time to react. “She suddenly turned the vehicle without looking into the mirror. I could not control the car. Yet, I tried very hard to avoid the collision,” he added.Baisla also denied fleeing after the accident. He said he rolled down his window when other bikers stopped him at the signal and told them he was not at fault. He further claimed that the video circulating on social media had been edited by joining separate clips. “They are playing the victim card. I did not hit them deliberately,” he said.
Shivani’s father Roshan Chauhan said she is a Delhi resident and social worker associated with Aam Aadmi Party. Chauhan, himself an AAP worker, said the family learnt about the crash on Monday because Shivani hadn’t told them anything about it. “I got to know about my daughter’s accident on Monday,” said Chauhan. He demanded that an attempt to murder case be filed against the accused.Police took suo motu cognisance of the video and got an FIR registered on Monday. Till late in the evening, Shivani was yet to file a complaint.“We have seen the video and registered an FIR at Sector 56 police station. The victim was contacted by police, but she’s yet to file a complaint. We will, however, examine the evidence and sequence of events that led to the crash,” ACP Abhilaksh Joshi said.The FIR, based on a complaint by ASI Kuldeep Singh, has been registered against unknown persons under sections 125 (rash or negligent acts endangering human life or personal safety) and 281 (rash driving) of BNS. Singh said the accident occurred near Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station. According to police, further sections would be considered after Shivani’s complaint and a medical report. “We will add more sections in the case following the complaint and medical report of the victim. The accused will be nabbed soon,” the SHO said.The Ciaz was traced to its owner, Manish, who said he’s in the Army and was away on duty when his friend borrowed the car for two days. “My friend Kalyan Baisla took my car for some work two days ago. And now, he is not taking my calls,” he added.Police sources said Baisla runs a gym and describes himself on social media as an international kabaddi and rugby player. Manish’s uncle Kartar Poshwal said the family came to know from neighbours that the car was involved in the crash. “Neither has our vehicle come back to us nor is Kalyan reachable,” he added.Shivani declined to speak to the media and subsequently made her social media account private. She, however, said she would approach police with her lawyer and file a complaint. Singh in his complaint alleged that the accident happened near Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station as he saw in the video on social media in which a car driver was seen ramming into a bike.
