On Jan. 22, 2026, the Hopkins Education Foundation announced that Bueckers would match up to $50,000 in donations to the Hopkins Strong Relief Fund. The foundation had created the fund with ICA Food Shelf to help Hopkins Public Schools students and their families who were struggling with food insecurity and other urgent expenses.The need had grown quickly. Families were dealing with food shortages as well as problems paying rent and utilities, while ICA Food Shelf was receiving more requests for help. The foundation wanted to raise enough money to provide support for families over the next few months.Bueckers decided to step in just days after the relief fund launched. Her offer meant every donation, up to $50,000, could effectively be doubled. The community responded and raised its own $50,000, allowing Bueckers to provide the full match.The Hopkins Education Foundation later said the campaign had raised more than $160,000 in total.Bueckers explained why she wanted to help the place she still considers home. “Community is how opportunity begins. When Hopkins families are supported with food and care, our young people can thrive. That’s why my foundation is committed to supporting the youth and families of Hopkins,” Bueckers said.Her relationship with the community also goes back beyond this particular fundraiser. The Hopkins Education Foundation said Bueckers has supported the ICA Food Shelf’s food market inside Hopkins West Middle School since 2023. The program gives students a way to access food directly at school.That made her latest contribution part of a longer effort rather than a one-time donation.Emily Wallace-Jackson, executive director of the Hopkins Education Foundation, said Bueckers’ support meant a great deal to the community.“Paige’s support means the world to us,” Wallace-Jackson said. “The Hopkins community is so proud of Paige and her accomplishments on the court, but mostly we are proud of her as a person.”The foundation also said that 100% of contributions to the Hopkins Strong Relief Fund would go to ICA Food Shelf. The money was meant to reach children and families in Hopkins Public Schools as quickly as possible.

Bueckers’ contribution soon became part of a much bigger fundraising effort. The $50,000 match encouraged local residents to donate, and the campaign eventually brought in more than $160,000.The response did not stop there. CBS Minnesota reported in March that Chegg, one of Bueckers’ corporate sponsors, also donated $50,000 to the Hopkins Strong effort.The scale of the need was clear at ICA Food Shelf. Matt Dymoke, the organization’s director of development and communications, said the food shelf had handed out 400 emergency food kits in one week. Before the surge in demand, the organization typically distributed around 90 a month.“She continues to remember us, she continues to remember her neighbors, and it’s just an incredible way for her to give back and for our community to rally around Paige,” Dymoke said.Bueckers’ hometown connection has stayed with her even as her basketball career has moved forward. She went from being a standout at Hopkins High School to becoming a UConn star and then the WNBA Rookie of the Year with the Dallas Wings. Yet her support for the ICA food market shows that she has continued to keep an eye on the community she came from.Her latest donation also gave local families something beyond financial help. It brought more attention to the problems they were facing and encouraged others to contribute. Bueckers put up $50,000, the community matched it, and the effort grew from there.For a player whose career has taken her far beyond Hopkins, the relief fund offered Bueckers a chance to give something back to the people and place that were part of her story long before the WNBA.
