Once priced at $29.5 million, a 151-acre New York estate is now going to auction; its 14,000-sq-ft mansion could sell for as little as $5 million

Once priced at $29.5 million, a 151-acre New York estate is now going to auction; its 14,000-sq-ft mansion could sell for as little as $5 million
Renamor dates to 1928, when George S. Amory and his wife, Marion Renee Carhart Amory, commissioned the estate. The property’s name was formed from their combined names.

For more than a year, Renamor sat on the market waiting for someone willing to pay nearly $30 million for a piece of old New York grandeur. No buyer came forward and even a multimillion-dollar price cut failed to move the property. Now, the 151-acre estate in Tuxedo Park is taking a very different route to a sale, reports the New York Post. Instead of another price reduction, the sprawling French Provincial compound is heading to auction, where it could change hands for a fraction of its original asking price.Located at 120 Ridge Road in the secluded community of Tuxedo Park, Renamor returned to the market in 2025 after more than three decades away, adds the report. The estate initially carried a $29.5 million price tag. After failing to attract a buyer, the asking price was reduced to roughly $25 million. Concierge Auctions is now handling the sale, with bidding scheduled to run from September 16 through September 29. As per the New York Post report, early bids are expected to fall between $5 million and $11 million, although there is no minimum bid.

A mansion with nearly a century of history

Renamor dates to 1928, when George S. Amory and his wife, Marion Renee Carhart Amory, commissioned the estate. The property’s name was formed from their combined names. Amory was a major stockholder in the Sea-Land Freight shipping empire, and the couple divided their time between New York City, France and Denmark. Their Tuxedo Park retreat reflected the grand scale and European influence associated with the community’s wealthiest residents. As per the report, the property later became the longtime home of Robert S. Dow, a prominent figure in the financial world and a member of the 1972 U.S. Olympic saber fencing team. Dow died in 2024, after which his widow, Christina Seix Dow, retained the estate before it was listed for sale.

14,000 square feet of old-world luxury

The main residence covers approximately 14,000 square feet and is packed with the kinds of spaces rarely found together in a modern home. Inside are a great hall, grand salon, banquet-sized dining room, library and wine cellar. A former chapel has been transformed into a sitting room, while a traditional fumoir, or smoking room, remains another reminder of the house’s early-20th-century origins. The mansion contains 16 bedroom suites and 20 bathrooms, along with 19 fireplaces. Architectural details such as the clay tile roof and dormer windows reinforce its French Provincial character.

A private world beyond the mansion

More than $1 million was reportedly invested in geothermal heating and a concealed solar array, allowing the property to operate through its own microgrid rather than relying entirely on the local power network.<br>

The main house is only part of the property. Three additional structures add more than 22,000 square feet, including a 3,700-square-foot guest house and a 4,700-square-foot carriage house. The grounds feature two swimming pools, a tennis court, putting green, tea house, spa building and a boathouse overlooking Tuxedo Lake. There is even a one-room log cabin with its own stone fireplace, adding a rustic counterpoint to the grandeur of the main residence. As per the report, the estate has also received significant modern upgrades. More than $1 million was reportedly invested in geothermal heating and a concealed solar array, allowing the property to operate through its own microgrid rather than relying entirely on the local power network.

The history of Tuxedo Park

Renamor’s setting is almost as notable as the property itself. Tuxedo Park is a private, gated community surrounded by protected parkland and located roughly 50 minutes from Manhattan. Established as the country’s first private residential community, it became a favored retreat for some of America’s wealthiest families. The enclave has its share of cultural lore, too. Its private club is widely associated with the origins of the modern tuxedo, while wealthy residents of an earlier era reportedly arrived in their own private railroad cars. Now, after decades of private ownership and more than a year of unsuccessful marketing, Renamor is entering a new chapter. This time, instead of asking what the estate is worth, the auction will let the bidders decide.Images Courtesy: New York Post
