UP man stalks, stabs 19-year-old in neck after she rejects his romantic advances; arrested | Agra News
AGRA: The police in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district have arrested a man after he allegedly stalked, physically assaulted, and stabbed a 19-year-old woman in the neck and back after she rejected his romantic advances.According to the details, the incident happened on Sept 9, at around 10.30am when the woman was out on a scooter to her work.The accused was arrested on September 10.As she reached the city’s Shastripuram area, the accused, Omkar, intercepted her on a motorbike and demanded she go with him.When the woman refused, Omkar allegedly removed her scooter keys.As she took out her mobile phone to call her family for help, he snatched the device, threw her to the ground, and repeatedly kicked and punched her, police said. When she tried to fight back, Omkar attacked her with a sharpened object in the back and neck.Bystanders rushed to intervene after hearing the woman’s screams, forcing Omkar to flee the scene on their two-wheeler, according to police.The woman was rushed to a private hospital nearby, where she received emergency treatment and stitches for her neck wounds.After the incident, an FIR was filed by the woman’s father at the Sikandara Police Station under BNS section 109 (1) (Attempt to murder).As per the FIR details, Omkar lived in the neighbourhood and was unemployed. Family members had objected to him following her, to no avail.The survivor told police that Omkar had been stalking, harassing, and pressuring her to enter a relationship with him for nearly a year.The woman, who works at a surgical equipment manufacturing company, is pursuing her studies for a Bachelor of Commerce degree.Speaking on the arrest, DCP Agra (City) Sayed Ali Abbas said, “A police team was formed at Sikandra police station to arrest the accused involved in the attempted murder of the woman. On September 10, acting on information received from an informer, the police team arrested Omkar near the JCB Ground. One mobile phone was recovered from the possession of the accused. The accused told the police team that he had thrown the sharp-edged object used in the crime into a river.“
