Entrepreneur-actor Parul Gulati shares her 3-post social media strategy, says, ‘People want different things at different times’
According to Gulati, timing matters as much as content.

Instagram can often feel like a guessing game for creators and businesses. Post too much, and audiences may tune out. Post too little, and the algorithm may stop favouring your content. But according to entrepreneur and actor Parul Gulati, the answer may lie not just in what you post, but in when you post it.Speaking on the podcast Restless With Ayush Shukla, Gulati explained the three-post-a-day strategy she follows for her business, Nish Hair. The approach is built around a simple observation: people’s mindset changes as the day progresses, and social media content can be planned around those changing moods.

Morning is for sales

“Morning posts are designed to drive direct sales when people are starting their day,” says Gulati.According to her, the logic is straightforward. In the morning, when people are starting their day and potentially planning what they need to buy, the content focuses more directly on the product and its purpose. Rather than treating every Instagram post as an opportunity to entertain, this strategy gives the first post a clear commercial role. For businesses trying to turn social media attention into actual revenue, this is an important distinction. Not every post needs to go viral. Some posts simply need to help a potential customer understand what is being offered and encourage them to make a purchase.

Afternoon is about grabbing attention

The second post has a different job. “Afternoon posts grab attention with high-quality visual launches,” notes Gulati. According to her, at this point, the aim is less about directly pushing a sale and more about making people stop scrolling.High-quality pictures, visually appealing launches and content that immediately catches the eye become important here. It reflects a broader lesson for anyone building a brand online: social media users are constantly being exposed to new information. A product may be useful, but usefulness alone does not guarantee attention. Presentation matters too.The afternoon post, therefore, works almost like a visual showcase- something designed to make people pause, look and remember.

Evening is when the strategy gets playful

The third post is perhaps the most interesting part of Gulati’s approach. “Evening posts are purely lighthearted and funny to capture people scrolling after work.” She said the evening content is more “gimmicky” and humorous, because people are scrolling after work and are looking for something they can simply enjoy. Her reasoning is rooted in audience behaviour. By the evening, people have largely moved away from the workday mindset. Instead of another straightforward product message, they may be more receptive to something funny, relatable or entertaining.Gulati explained that such content could make people laugh while also connecting with a familiar problem- such as hair fall. If the post is visually appealing, funny and relatable at the same time, viewers are more likely to remember it.”People are laughing at night,” she said while explaining the thinking behind the evening strategy.

The bigger lesson for creators and businesses

What makes the strategy interesting is that the three posts are not simply three versions of the same advertisement. Each one has a different purpose: morning content is meant to sell, afternoon content is meant to attract attention, and evening content is meant to entertain. For professionals, creators and small businesses trying to build an audience, this offers a useful way of thinking about content calendars. Instead of asking only, “What should I post today?”, the better question could be, “What is my audience likely to want from me at this time of the day?”The approach also shows why building an online brand is increasingly about understanding audience behaviour rather than simply producing more content. A successful social media strategy does not necessarily mean posting constantly. It means giving each piece of content a reason to exist. Gulati’s three-post formula essentially divides the day into three different opportunities: conversion, attention and connection. And for anyone trying to turn Instagram from a social platform into a serious business tool, that distinction could be more valuable than chasing the next viral trend.
