INDORE: A 23-year-old woman who had a love marriage with her neighbour less than a month ago was allegedly stabbed to death by her sister-in-law after a dispute over a comment about the latter’s brother, who is lodged in Damoh jail in a rape case, police said.DCP Narendra Rawat said the accused woman, Parvati Bai Kushwah, attacked the newlywed, Vandana Kushwah, on the neck with a kitchen knife, dragged her body into a water-filled tank outside the house and then left for hospital where her husband was admitted for a ligament surgery. She was arrested on Friday after CCTV footage showed her leaving the house around the time of the killing. The incident took place on Thursday in Nehru Nagar under Rau police station limits. Police said a dispute between Vandana and Parvati Bai had erupted during Raksha Bandhan after Vandana allegedly commented about Parvati’s brother, who is lodged in jail in a rape case. The two women reportedly argued again on Thursday. Police said Parvati then picked up a knife from the kitchen and attacked Vandana on the neck. At that time, Parvati’s three children were at school while her husband Bhupendra and Vandana’s husband Upendra were at Aurobindo Hospital. The matter came to light after Vandana’s husband called her and her phone was switched off. He grew suspicious because he was aware of the fights between the two women and rushed back home to find his wife’s body in the tank. He pulled her out and informed police.Investigators said CCTV footage showed Parvati leaving the house, following which she was questioned about the incident. Police said she was confronted with evidence allegedly linking her to the crime, including fingerprints purportedly found on the knife, after which she confessed.Vandana and Upendra’s families lived near each other in Nehru Nagar. Vandana’s family had opposed her relationship with Upendra, following which the couple had moved to a rented house in Raj Nagar. After Vandana left home and married Upendra on August 11, her family lodged a missing-person report at Chandan Nagar police station. She subsequently told police that she wanted to live with Upendra.Vandana’s family said they had not spoken to her after she recorded her statement at the police station on Aug 12.
