Indian among 11 killed after Russia launches massive strike on Ukraine
The Kyiv and Odesa regions were the main targets of the assault

At least 12 people, including an Indian, were killed after Russia launched a massive aerial assault across Ukraine overnight, Ukrainian authorities said on Tuesday. More than a dozen people were also wounded, including three children. The attack, which began at around 6pm on Monday, involved ballistic, cruise and anti-radar missiles, along with 218 drones and decoys, according to Ukraine’s air force. Around a third of the drones were reportedly jet-powered.The Kyiv and Odesa regions were the main targets of the assault, which marked the sixth consecutive day of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged in several areas. “Overall, 12 people were killed, among them an Indian citizen, and dozens more were injured in the attack.”Zelenskyy said seven people were killed in a strike on a railway depot in Kyiv, while authorities reported another death in the city’s Holosiivskyi district after a non-residential building was hit and caught fire. A drone also struck a residential building in the Solomianskyi district, where emergency workers rescued a man and freed a woman trapped under rubble. In the wider Kyiv region, three people were killed and 12 wounded. In Boryspil, several buildings and vehicles were damaged, while emergency crews evacuated 48 people and rescued two people from beneath the rubble.Odesa also came under heavy attack, with residential buildings and civilian infrastructure damaged. A sewing factory caught fire, while Russian forces also struck the Orlivka international ferry crossing on the border with Romania.Ukraine’s air force said its forces destroyed or suppressed 199 aerial targets, including five ballistic missiles and 187 drones. Missile and drone strikes were recorded at 28 locations, while debris from intercepted targets fell at another 10 sites.Zelenskyy said the attacks showed the need for stronger air defences, adding: “Russia always plans its strikes specifically to cause as much destruction to people’s lives as possible, and it succeeds only when air defense capabilities are insufficient.”
