Zomato layoffs: 250 jobs cut as company shuts customer support centre in Hyderabad

Food delivery platform Zomato has reportedly shut down its customer support operations in Hyderabad. According to a report by Economic Times, the shut down of customer support operations in Hyderabad has resulted in around 250 employees losing their jobs. The report further states that this decision of the company is part of a restructuring exercise following changes in Zomato’s customer support model over the past six months, with a larger share of work is now being outsourced to external partners.

Zomato consolidating in-house support operations

According to the report by ET, Zomato is consolidating its in-house support operations at its Gurugram headquarters, bringing them closer to its product, technology, analytics, and business teams. Employees were informed of the decision on Monday as part of a review of Zomato’s customer support operating model and organisational requirements.

What Zomato will offer to affected employees

Affected employees will receive their August salary and four months’ pay, including contractual notice pay and a one-time ex gratia payment. Their medical insurance and counselling support will continue until March 31, 2027.The move aligns with a broader trend among consumer internet companies shifting customer support functions to external service providers and automation, reducing the need for large in-house teams. Zomato had previously laid off around 500 junior-level employees in April 2025.

Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal gives an update on Temple device

In related news, recently, Zomato founder and former CEO Deepinder Goyal recently shared an update about the wearable device – Temple. In an X (formerly Twitter) post, Deepinder Goyal said that the device is now less than half the size of the version shown earlier. Goyal said the smaller design makes Temple the smallest wearable on the market by volume, while also claiming it is the most powerful. “Temple is now less than half the size of what you’ve seen so far. Volumetrically, Temple is now the smallest wearable on the market, and the most^10 powerful. Living and training with Temple is going to change your life,” the Zomato founder wrote. However, Goyal did not provide specific measurements or technical details in the post explaining how the device’s size was reduced. In the post, Deepinder Goyal also said Temple is moving closer to its limited launch. “We will start taking pre-orders for our limited launch edition @temple very soon – shipping before the end of 2026,” he said.People interested in the wearable can join Temple’s mailing list through its website to receive updates about the pre-orders and launch.
