SHAHJAHANPUR: Two youths who went to meet a woman in a village were allegedly caught by locals, with one of them tied to a tree and beaten. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, police said.The incident took place on Friday afternoon in Maholiya Veeran village under Khutar police station, Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit said.According to police, the two youths, Radhe and Sonu, had gone to meet a 28-year-old woman. She had been married for about eight years and had recently been in contact with the two men over the phone. The two are her brothers-in-law by relation, police said.The two were talking to the woman when villagers caught them. The FIR states that the villagers suspected the men were trying to take her away.One of the youths was allegedly tied to a tree with a rope and beaten. The video shows him surrounded by villagers, who ask his name and address. He says he is from the Palia area of Lakhimpur Kheri and apologises, saying he made a mistake and would not return.Both youths later fled the village, police said.Khutar police have registered a case against Sonu and Radhe under Section 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly trying to abduct the woman.Police have also taken note of the viral video. SP Dixit said action would be taken against those who allegedly tied up and assaulted the youths if a complaint is filed.
