Former Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders was arrested on DUI and careless driving charges in June after police found him slumped over in the driver’s seat of a Lexus stopped in the middle of William Penn Highway in Churchill Borough, Pennsylvania. According to CBS Pittsburgh, the 29-year-old was found in and out of consciousness and could not answer officers’ questions. Police said he later performed poorly on field sobriety tests and tested positive for alcohol. A package of suspected marijuana was also found inside the vehicle, according to court records. Sanders is due back in court in September. His attorney, Phil DiLucente, said the case has not reached the preliminary hearing stage and declined to comment further.

The arrest happened on June 8 in Churchill Borough, about 10 miles outside Pittsburgh. Police were called after a vehicle was reported sitting still in the middle of William Penn Highway near Beulah Road. When an officer reached the Lexus, Sanders was reportedly slumped over in the driver’s seat.According to the criminal complaint reported by CBS Pittsburgh, officers made several attempts to wake him. Police said Sanders appeared to be “in and out of consciousness” and “extremely lethargic,” while also saying he could not answer their questions. When he got out of the car, officers said his eyes looked glossy and his breath smelled of alcohol. Police also said Sanders admitted that he had been drinking earlier that day.Sanders then took field sobriety tests, and police said he performed poorly. A portable breath test also showed a positive result for alcohol, according to the complaint. Officers arrested him and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and careless driving. Police also reported finding a package of suspected marijuana inside the vehicle.

The arrest comes as Sanders remains a free agent after last playing for the Dallas Cowboys in 2025. Before that, he spent four seasons with the Eagles, who selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Penn State. Sanders made the Pro Bowl in 2022 and later signed with the Carolina Panthers before joining Dallas.His 2025 season ended early after he played in four games for the Cowboys. CBS Pittsburgh reported that his last NFL appearance came on September 28, 2025, against the Green Bay Packers. Sanders has 4,462 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns across 88 NFL games, along with 183 catches for 1,274 yards and four receiving touchdowns.Sanders is scheduled to return to court in September, according to court records. His attorney Phil DiLucente told KDKA-TV, “This is a private matter that has not even reached the preliminary hearing stage and there will be no further comment.”
