During his testimony in a Newark courtroom, John Overdeck raised concerns that the marital split and his ongoing friction with Siegel risked damaging Two Sigma’s corporate standing. However, Laura Overdeck’s attorney reportedly challenged that narrative on the stand. Meanwhile, John Overdeck conceded under oath that the fund’s asset base had indeed expanded over that period.

Severe court sanctions on the witness stand

Cross-examining her husband may serve as Laura Overdeck’s primary legal avenue to argue that Two Sigma represents a divisible marital asset. A Family Court Judge previously issued an order prohibiting Laura from taking the witness stand or presenting testimony from expert witnesses.The sanction was handed down after the judge determined she had engaged in deceptive litigation maneuvers, including hacking into her estranged husband’s email account.Previously, John Overdeck’s legal team extended settlement proposals exceeding $600 million but the two sides remain split on the history of the firm. John Overdeck asserts that Two Sigma was established years prior to their wedding day. In contrast, Laura Overdeck contends the hedge fund existed merely as a paper entity without genuine capital or assets at the time of their marriage.Beyond the firm itself, Laura is pursuing a 50% split of hundreds of millions of dollars held in treasury reserves and the couple’s charitable foundation, along with reinstatement as an equal trustee over funds established for their three children.
