Apple has laid off more than 200 people across the teams building Siri and the Vision Pro, according to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman. The split is roughly even. About 100 roles have gone from the Vision Pro organisation, and about 100 more from Siri and the software groups around it. Also caught in the round is Intelligent Systems Experience, a team inside Apple’s software engineering arm that builds AI features sitting across iPhone, iPad and Mac.Apple confirmed the cuts without confirming the number. The company said it is realigning teams “to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users,” and that new roles are being created even as existing ones disappear. Staff who lost jobs can apply elsewhere inside Apple. What makes this round worth reading closely is that one headcount figure is hiding two completely different stories. One team is being rebuilt. The other is being told to wait.

The headset took the harder blow. Siri’s situation is the opposite of a wind-down. The assistant is being rebuilt on a new technical architecture for its AI version, and that stack asks for skills the old one did not. So some roles end, resources move, and new positions open around the rebuilt assistant. Apple showed the revamped Siri at WWDC this year and a public beta is due before 2026 closes. Nobody cuts a team weeks before shipping unless the team they need looks different from the one they have.

Apple insists visionOS is not going anywhere, and visionOS 27 shipped in June to prove it. A new headset is still penciled in for as late as end-2028. Meanwhile Bloomberg reports work with Samsung Display on an entry-level XR display was suspended, and Apple is aiming to announce smart glasses at WWDC 2027 and ship them that year. Those glasses will not run immersive video or heavy games.Incoming CEO John Ternus now owns the decision. Apple has not given up on a screen you wear on your face. It has given up on this one being the version people buy.
